Release Notes

  • Fixed a bug for people using multiple screens (the animation was weird), thanks Alex for the tip.
  • Modified the service handling: many services were wrongly detected, creating bad rules (explaining why some people always get the same notification while creating the corresponding rules). When the service cannot be determined, a new window offers to select which one(s) should be considered when creating the rule.
  • Fixed some bugs here and there.

About this version

While it won't hurt using it, I can't consider it as a stable release since I only tested it on my computer for a few hours ;-)
Feel free to tell if you encounter any bug.
Please note that the log is more verbose with this version (I'll change it for the next stable release, but I need some feedback first).

About you, fellow users

I'd like to thank all of you for your donations. This version is yours, as I really appreciate your support :-)
I have some issues with the email address linked to paypal, so all answers I sent are still in my outbox... I'll switch to another email solution soon.
The same goes for people sending me ideas or comments (including on Codeplex). I'm reading all your comments, but am not able to answer to all of them because, you know, real life...

Works as expected. It still has the bug with not remembering "Use animated notification" but it doesn't fly anymore all over the secondary screen.

Hi, that's weird, it should remember the setting, I'll check that when I have some free time. Thanks for your feedback :-)

Still very unusable on Windows 8/8.1: a lot of programs are listed as "service:ND". the only way to take an action is to set a rule for the current program (if you choose service the program will give an error prompt); in this case the firewall will prompt the request for action every time you open that program, sometimes it will even keep asking for actions until you close it no matter what action you take or how many time you click.

I'm on Win 8.1 and have no issue adding a program without specifying a service (while I agree the service detection is still buggy, but there is nothing I can do about it if you still want WFN to be portable and non intrusive... It would require an additional filter - ie a specific driver - to catch the service connection in real-time instead of relying on the firewall logs). What program(s) did you use?

Even worse than before. Gave my system a BSOD.

That's not what I would call a useful review. Please mention the message you got, the system you use, and keep in mind this is a BETA meaning that it CAN cause issues as the one you got. You really think I don't have a life out there? Furthermore, I have one computer at home, meaning I can't test on all possible configurations (and even if I could, I wouldn't), this is why beta versions exist in the first place. You want to help? Develop your own soft or give a constructive review. Thanks.
