I want to try out WFN.

The v2 releases are still labelled as "alpha". Are the v2 version really only alpha or meanwhile already "beta"?

How reliable+stable is the v2 version?

Should I download v1?

Otherwise I suggest to switch over to "beta" naming.

If you are on a Windows 10, I am not sure if 1.x versions will work on it as it was released before Windows 10 was out and hasn't been updated since.

The 2.x (yes 2.x is still in alpha stage, it will soon be in beta though) versions are currently suffering from a bug where WFN will forget rules and you will be prompt to allow or block rules that you may already have told it to allow/block. Hopefully, this can be fixed in the next update. Daniel (a developer for WFN) has been working hard to try and find out why this is, and I have ever bit of confident that he can fix it.

Thank you for using WFN.
